Kate Turns Her Passion for Photography into Nationwide Contest

Duchess Kate has a history of being a keen amateur photographer. She took several candid portraits of her kids that were later shared on the official social media channels of the Royal Family. So it only makes sense that she’s turning her passion into a way to uplift people’s spirits during the coronavirus pandemic.

Lockdown Photo Contest

In partnership with the National Portrait Gallery, Kate launched a photography contest to show British life during lockdown. They’re looking for photos “that capture the spirit, the mood, the hopes, the fears and the feelings” of what it’s like to live in the UK right now.

“We’ve all been struck by some of the incredible images we’ve seen which have given us an insight into the experiences and stories of people across the country,” Kate said in a statement.

“Some desperately sad images showing the human tragedy of this pandemic and other uplifting pictures showing people coming together to support those more vulnerable. ‘Hold Still’ aims to capture a portrait of the nation, the spirit of the nation, what everyone is going through at this time. Photographs reflecting resilience, bravery, kindness – all those things that people are experiencing.”

Photographers of all ages and skill levels are invited to submit pictures. Each photo should represent one of three themes: Helpers and Heroes, Your New Normal, or Acts of Kindness.

The winning entries will be shown as part of a digital exhibition later this year.

Kate Chats With Morning Show Via Zoom

Kate appeared on the ITV talk show “This Morning” to promote the contest earlier today. The Duchess sported long, loose waves, a yellow floral dress by Raey, and gold fern earrings by Catherine Zoraida. You can check out a short clip from the show below:

One question, though. Every other Royal has treated us to a glimpse of their posh (or, in Camilla’s case, cluttered) private rooms. So why is Kate filming in what looks like a plain white hallway in front of a closet door? Give us something, Kate!

Cambridge vs. Sussex

Even though they are thousands of miles apart, the Cambridges and Sussexes just can’t stop trying to one-up each other.

Kate’s announcement just happened to drop on May 6th. Harry and Meghan celebrated their first child’s birthday on May 5th. In fact, because of the time difference between California and London, the Sussexes’ video of Meghan reading a story to Archie had only been out for a few hours before Kate swooped in on the news cycle.

Maybe I’m reading too much into the timing, but that seems shady at best.
